Evening all,

Have any of you got any experience with large MOSS 2007 deployments in a non technical sense?

So the softer issues like governance, structuring the sites etc?

Probably better chatting via e-mail so if anyone feels up to it my e-mail is:

liam . ward @ wildcut . co . uk

:)

I don't have first hand experience of doing it but we as a company have done it and my only advice to others is don't. It's a bloody terrible product and nobody uses it (in fact, it's so hated we've created ourselves a wiki and use that, other departments do similar)

It's not all that bad is it!? Try the 2010 version and there are bucket loads of improvements.

What aspects of it do you class as terrible? It isn't something easy to deploy for sure and you need a real good plan done out first before even installing the binaries onto any server.

WOSS is great as a collaboration tool for intra-company dealings. A wiki would be just as functional but WOSS is more of an 'all in one' package for IT Directors who want to be sell it as a silver bullet.
It does lots of things fantastically, but by no means is the be-all-and-end-all of collaborative working.

Yep one huge thing missing was the Document/Records Managment side of things. I think 2010 builds on that much better. The big reason why it isn't always an option is that 2010 is only x64 only so if running old hardware it will be an expensive upgrade.
