I have a new sharepoint list, when a normal user creates a list , they are made to fill in a form with a mandotary attachment field - they are unable to save the items without and attachment , when attachment is selected , it does not upload it to the list , but it does save the item. Attempting to submit an item to save without selecting the attachment is not
Possible, we need user to be able to add an item but not edit it. Any suggestions ?

1. You need to access the site settings > permissions of the site that the list lives in
2. Click on Permission Levels (which is roles effectively)
3. Click on "Contribute" as it's the closest permission role you want
4. Scroll down and click on Copy Permission Role
5. Give the new role a name and description
6. Under "list permissions" untick Edit and Delete and leave everything else as is
7. Scroll down and click on Create
8. Go to you list > list settings > permissions > click on "Stop inheriting permissions" > select your user group (probably list members) > Edit User Permissions > untick contribute and tick your new permission level that you created in step 5
