Desperately need help

i have a Ubuntu 8.10 machine sharing two folders read only to everyone on the network. That was easy.
But.... i want to add a folder for each user that only they can read/write to. These folders will need to be on their own drive too. any clues how?

How many users are there and do they need to be on a different drive or do they just need to be on different partitions?

I have 2 drives as follows

sda1
sda2 /
sda3 /home
sda4 /swap

sdb1 /smb share
sdb2 /smb share
sdb3 /smb share
sdb4

sdb4 is where i want four users to have a folder each to be able to back up their work.

I have mounted the partition and set up it as a share in shares-admin. Do i manually make each folder and assign the permissions of each folder?
Do i need to smbpasswd?

Assuming the users are logging on with their own ID's why can't you just set directory permissions accordingly?

Would that work if they are using different terminals and OS's?

So long as people log in with their usernames and passwords to the samba share and the files on the share are set to 007 (or similar) with the file create mask to match then you'll be fine
