Hello,
I'm trying to help a friend out and have replicated their situation at home, but struggling to get internet sharing working.
The requirement is to connect a new WiFi router to their gaming PC via Ethernet, so that a VR headset has a strong/stable connection to the PC via the new router (for PC VR).
The gaming PC is far away from the ISP router in rented accommodation, Ethernet is not feasible. Therefore connected via WiFi to the ISP router for internet access.
I've had a look at some guides and it looks simple in theory to share the WiFi connection to the new router via Ethernet, but no luck so far.
Setup is as follows:
- Gaming PC is connected to ISP router via USB WiFi dongle.
- Second WiFi router is connected to the PC via Ethernet. I have set this up in AP (access point) mode. I assume this is correct to avoid double NAT etc?
- (should the second router / AP be connected to PC via WAN or LAN port on the router?)
- In Windows network settings, I have right clicked the WiFi connection and enabled sharing. I have selected the Ethernet port for where to share.
- The second router does not seem to pick up the internet connection to share it with the connected VR headset.
Am I missing something? I've tried bridging the WiFi and Ethernet ports, but that didn't work either. The 'sharing' option seems to be what is recommended online. Perhaps there's some settings other than enabling AP in the second router I need to enable?
Thanks!
