Hey

Trying to get a printer setup for a friend.

They have a vista system with an HP laserjet connected to it

and an xp system which they want to connect to the laserjet over the network.

Whats the best way of doing this.

I have tried sharing the printer, I ahve tried adding a new printer by selecting over the network but it can never see the printer.

I have never done this before so am in need of some advice?

Thanks

Neil

Right, some updates:

just been back to ahve a go. I set a password for the user accounts for each system.

I then set the printer to be shared gave it a sharename of HPLJ

clicked start on xp system and press run typed: \\peter-pc\hplj and it fails. I tried disabling kaspersky on both systems and it allows me to connect and I can add the printer.

It sort of works when installing the driver so i went to hp's website and downloaded the driver for the HP Laserject 1020 and tried to install it but it asks me to plug the usb cable in but I want to connect to it over the network?

I think the driver is installed as it shows up in the printers window and if I print to the printer from the xp system then the document shows up in the print window on both the xp system and the vista system but it has an error on the vista system saying "Error Processing Command" and then does not print.

Any ideas?

How do I allow this file and printer sharing throguh kaspersky?

Thanks

Neil
