sharing across network vista/ loepard

hi, trying to figure out how to share files with mate on mac using leopard, hes in london im in oxford so obviously cant share local network.
usedto use timbuktu which worked great but since we both upgraded from tiger/xp to leopard/vista it wont work.
would like to do thro standard file sharing if pos.

please help
