Hello,

I have never tried this before however i have a Belkin G+ Router, a laptop on vista home premium and also a PC on XP Pro.

Is there anyway i can make it so i can access all the files on folders from both computers on whatever machine i am on?

For example; my laptop has 30gb of data/music i would like to get onto the PC, id rather just move it over rather then put it all on dvd discs etc

Please do help, sharin files an folders would be so useful :)

Another thing now, but on the same subject.Belkin told me to make HDDs wireless and accessable as a 'removable HDD drive' i would need to buy their £70 'network hub' which consists of a etheret port and 5 USB, is there any other and cheaper ways of doing so?

Thanks guys, hope you understand my post, new to this game :)

You need to set up a Windows home network. I would set this up on the XP PC:

Control Panel / Network Setup Wizard

during the process you will configure a WORKGROUP name, which is needed by all computers on the network.

You will need hardware that allows you connect both computers to the network, i.e. either a router with say 4 ethernet ports that you can connect each computer to with an ethernet cable, or a wireless router where each machine connects wirelessly (or maybe the PC still connects with an ethernet cable).

I would Google setting up a Windows network on XP. You can still run into problems sharing files from an XP machine onto a Vista machine but in theory it should work, but older routers can be problematic with Vista.

hey,

thanks i got my XP PC HDD showing on my Vista laptop under 'netwok'

I have set my vista HDD up for sharing too, however i cant find it anywhere on the XP PC, could anyone guide me where it should be or what i may have did wrong

to share the vista hdd i just went to the drives properties and clicked share

thanks

On the Vista machine, have you specified the WORKGROUP name that the computer should be joining?

I haven't got my Vista machine with me at the moment, but if you open Windows explorer, find My Computer, right click and go to properties, I expect you can set the WORKGROUP name from there somehow.

Hi,

Vista and XP machines are both in 'Home' Workgroup.

I am sending from vista - XP now but cant see vista anywhere on XP
