I've just setup an old imac with Os X 10.4.7 and was wondering that is the best way to share the drive up over the network and put some music etc.. from my windows pc over to it?

Thanks in advance :D

From the finder, select 'go' then 'connect ot server.' Put in the ip of your windows box 'smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' and hit connect.

Select the shared folder you want and put in your login credentials (the user account on the pc).

Jobs a good 'un. :)

Hmm, you need Windows Sharing Enabled to connect from the mac, and in the last 3 years of trying its highly tempormental. (3 different PCs, all running windows have either failed to enable it at all, rubbihs performance or after restarts just not working at all until a reinstall.

I just make the mac allow sharing to Windows. Then connect using the add Network Place.

Works a treat.

CR.

I've been able to share between my mac, two pc's and a laptop no problem.

Just go to finder, network and it shows the networks, click eg mshome and you will see the attached PCs easy and works every time :)

The pc's you connect to are also in the recently used list so you can just click on them from there in future.

Hope that helps.

Not if it's over the intnernal network.

I've got no problems here sharing my windows shares with a mac, OS X just uses Samba after all and Samba is almost better at SMB transfers than windows is.

No problems here, have a drive on my Windows desktop computer shared over the network, and can connect perfectly fine from my MacBook (no IP Addresses, just Finder > Network > MSHome > *My Computer*) wirelessly through my Access Point to my wired network :) :p

Yea should work fine with any network :)

I think the osx way is easyer because its simple to see what networks there are unlike windows and you can see what PCs there are.

Nice and simple :)
