Sharing files

Im wondering if you can share files between a laptop which is on vista and a pc which is on xp, i have tried hooking them up the usual way with the ethernet cables no luck so far, i havnt had much time to play as i have work so is there any tutorials about ?

Are you trying to go directly from machine-to-machine, or is there a router in between managing the traffic?

Machine to machine, ethernet to ethernet.

Unless your NICs are able to see what you're trying to do, in which case they can perform the switch themselves. Some newer ones can do this but not all.

As far as the config goes I'm useless.

well, that isnt my kind of english i think ill have to stick with a external hardrive
