Just a quick question about sharing folders.

I've got quite a lot of films, music etc on my PC, and my little bro wants access to it all from his laptop which is part of our home network.

I've shared the folder containing it all which he can access and I've not ticked the box marked "Allow network users to share my files." Am I right in saying that he can view files and copy them across to his machine, but won't be able to rename files, move them about within the folders or most importantly delete anything?

I just want to make sure as I'd probably kill him if he managed to wipe my music collection.

I don't mind him having access, just need to know that he can only view and not amend or delete files from this folder that I've shared for him.

try it out for yourself, go onto his pc

start, run, \\yourpcname\sharename

this will browse to the shared folder, then try right clicking and New, Textfile
should say 'access denied'!

That's a bloody good idea, why didn't I think of that?

Cheers.
