Hey,
I am trying to use RealTimeSync (part of freefilesync) to auto sync a folder of files from my desktop to my netbook over our local network.

This is the way I wish to do it so please don;t suggest alternatives

Bascially, I want the folder synced to a location on the D drive of the netbook rather than the C drive.

If I go to Network on my desktop pc and click on my netbook, it gives me access to the Users folder on C.

I went to the D drive and shared it and it now shows as accessible on my desktop with a sharename of D.

However. I only want the D drive to be accessible to the Neil user account of my desktop and the default account of the netbook.

How can I restrict the access? I have tried several things but can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks

Neil

it's all to do with permissions. You need to set up a user on the machine called neil with a password. You then need to give access to it via properties and add the correct permissions to that folder allowing only neil to have access to it.

I tried going into Permissions and adding a new user but when i type in Neil-PC\Neil

It can't seem to locate it. Also, when i click the locations button to select my desktop pc, it doesn't show up.

By the way, the netbooks name is Neil-Netbook with a username of Neil

Thanks

You need to create an account on the netbook called Neil using the same password as your Neil account on the other computer. You then give all the permissions to Neil-Netbook\Neil that you want. There will also likely be an Everybody user that you will need to remove.

Ok, but why can't I just allow the Neil account of my desktop pc to access it?

Why doesn't my desktop pc show up in the locations box?

Also, How can you quickly see a list of everything thats currently being shared on a system?
