Hi there.

I'm looking to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive and have iTunes on both of my Macs share this one library.

I'd want to have as near to full functionality from both machines as possible.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks

Si :)

I'm 90% sure it's possible. Go into preferences and just change where your iTunes library is stored under advanced.

I'm booted into Windows at the moment, but it allows me to point my iTunes library to a network drive or external disk :)

To keep playlists and changes across both Macs, you'll need to move the library files. Easiest solution is to simply move the entire iTunes folder, then hold down option while starting iTunes and point it to where you moved the library.

If you do this on both Macs, changes made to the library on one machine will show up on the other machine the next time you open iTunes.

Preferences won't be shared, however, which can be a good thing.

I had mine set up like this when I had a NAS, though I'd suggest keeping everything backed up until you figure out what you can and can't get away with, as far as having both systems accessing the library at the same time goes.
