Hi all,

I am going to be running atleast 3 machine upstairs so i need something that will share one ethernet connection.

My current setup;

Downstairs; Modem > Router (4ports) > 1 - back into pc and one upstairs to me.

In my room i will have;

PS3,
Desktop Pc.
Laptop
and i will be adding more.

What i am looking for is a switch? but i've heard things about hubs and i dont know the different, here's the thing i want no more than 6 ports and i want it to be quiet.

Any ideas?

thanks.

Get a switch, no point in getting a hub and I don't think you'd find anyone selling a new one anymore as it is. Switches are faster and more efficient for a number of reasons.

For the money you can't go too far wrong with an HP 1400-8G, will be about £45 or so and is an 8-port gigabit switch.

Gigabit switch is the one.

Hubs send the same data to each computer connected to it every time, whereas a switch only sends data to its intended recipient, thus providing a faster service.
