Ok for work I have been asked to find a solution to allow the windows laptop to share the external hard drive which I think is either usb or wifi to a macbook pro.

He wanted a solution where I could type in an address bar to bring up the contents of the drive and drag and drop between machines.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great!

Need more info on the Wifi thing. Make/model of the drive/caddy would be helpful.

Plugged in via USB OS X will likely read it but depending on the format (File/Get Info) might not be able to write to it without additional software.
FAT32 will be fine, subject to the usual restrictions.
NTFS will require additional software (eg Paragon NTFS for Mac) to allow write.

At home I have a mac mini with a firewire drive and my PC.

I can access the external drive from my PC and write files to it, even with the external drive ext formatted.

All I did was enable file sharing on the mac, shared the relevant drive and it all shows up in the networking section of my Windows 7 PC. Really easy in the end.
