I need to share a USB Based Mimaki Vinyl Plotter over a network. At the moment it is plugged directly into a machine via a usb port. However we want to be able to send jobs to it from any machine on the network.
The issue is that it is not like a printer where you can just share it, or plug it into a print server.
The software that comes with it requires you to tell it what com port the cutter is on and there is no option to pick a networked share etc.
So I think we need one of the following...
1 - Software that creates a virtual USB port that can be pointed to the cutter - not sure if this will work considering it doesnt appear as a printer on the host PC.
2 - Hardware device that bridges the device and creates virtual USB ports on the client machines.
Now I have seen a product by Keypsan that does the latter, but I don't know how the ports work and if it does what we need.
Does anyone know of a solution that fits the bill?
