Sharing video - best codec?

Hi,

I've recorded some videos of our systems @ 1920 * 1080 on my colleague's Canon 500D. I need to edit them together somehow, with a bit of subtitle/intro text to say what's going on in each scene.

I can get Adobe Prememiere Elements 8 bought for me. I'm using the trial at the moment, but the embedded watermark thing is irritating.

The question is which codec / how should I "Share" (That's what premiere calls it) the final product? I've seen stuff on youtube that looks way clearer than the stuff I've been able to output so far. I'd like to get the resolution down to something akin to youtube's default size, but retain some detail if possible.

I haven't a clue which codec to use, or settings.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

J.

h.264 format at the same frame rate, de-interlace if the footage was interlaced, i'd also use vimeo rather than youtube as I think their codec gives much better results.
