Sharkoon

I have the full one. Never tried it without the box, you might have some issues connecting certain things and I guess most workarounds would mean buying more cables ect.

Best to just see if it works well without it, if you need the box I'm sure you could find one for under £50 anyway.

It will arrive on Wednesday ill let you know what its like fot me. I see you sent me a message via trust. Add me on steam and ill have a chat with you tonight. After I finish work mate. Steam id is cabbage4321

I also have the full headset with the box. I think you're going to need a box mate, the headset's without the box are for running two headsets from one box afaik.
That said, they're cheesin' awesome :)

Right lads ive change my order to the sharkoon digitals which includes the control box. So ive got the better set coming now. I may have another problem though. On my sound card there is 4 colours but thats all. Is that all i need? Says in my sig i have a creative x fi but i actually only have a creative audigy SE and ive used a mod i found online which changed it to the x fi. Do i need to change my sound card. i hope not, i havent told the mrs ive just spent an extra 50 pound yet lol. i did originally tell her id only be spending about 50 but now its over 100 lol it will be coming tomorrow.

Haha thanks mate, yeah she's home in a minute, cant wait lol.

Well..... im still alive at least. she wasnt too bad with me after all. Just gotta wait for it to come now :)

Ok sorry to double post here guys. I know my question of if my soundcard will work was answered, and it was ok. Headset is coming today by the looks of it. Was just looking at setting it up online. Now i know the 4 colours obviously go into the soundcard for 5.1 What about the spdif cable? can that plug into the onboard spdif seeing as the soundcard doesnt have one? or isnt that important. I dont even know if its possible to use both soundcard and onboard spdif together!

The what? lol. Sorry mate, haven't a clue what an spdif is.
Are you talking about the digital optical input? if so it's not used when you're plugging it into a PC via the jacks. However if your PC has onboard optical out why not use that? Leave the digital decoding up to the headphone box. Then you don't need to 4 jack plug PC connector at all.
All your answers are in the manual available from the link I posted.

yeah mate sorry thats what i meant haha. Just thought maybe it would help using that? anyways my headset was sent out first thing this morning but isnt getting delivered till tomorrow... damn you dpd lol . Cheers for your help tony ill let you know how it goes.

Nice one mate, let me know what you think of them, I was torn between them and the Turtle Beach X41's. I went with the Sharkoon's because of not having to change batteries and a lingering perception that wired>wireless.
However, the Sharkoon's are a whole mess o' wires for sure, but they sound the business. I use them mainly on the Xbox 360 but they revolutionise FPS games. I was playing a bit of retro Gears 1 Monday night and while sitting in the dead pool watching my team-mate finish the round, I heard an enemy coming up from behind and to the left, which they obviously didn't. They were listening theough the TV and were blissfully unaware of the sneak up.

Oh, and the green lights on the headset themselves are very cool, can't forget the importance of aesthetics :)

Ok ive got it and can i work out how to set it up properly no. Ive got the 4 colours in the back and the SCU powered up. Now on the SCU the only light ive got on is the power, no digital, PL or DRC. My headset is plugged into the volume controller and then into the power and coming off that the 4 colours into the pc soundcard. Now this doesnt make sense to me, at no point do i have the headset plugged into the control unit. Now if thats the case then i cant use the dolby digital for it and there no point in me even having it?

Right, looks like I was wrong regarding needing the SCU for PC use, if you are not using the SCU and using the 4 x jack plugs then it's just analogue, and the SCU is not needed. The surround is handled by your soundcard. In order to make use of the SCU you need to go optical. Which it sounds as though your onboard has.

Sorry mate, I did say I wasn't sure in my first post. I am now because I've taken the time to look through the manual. But you would only have needed the analogue Sharkoon's if you're going to stay using the 4 x jack plugs.

As you can see from this it's not needed for PC use if using the jack plugs: http://www.sharkoon.com/sites/default/files/Xtatic Quick Start Guide.pdf

Yes that's the one id cancelled. They are no different minus the box though. Would onboard optical be as good as cheap soundcard in my sigs 4 jacks. Is does sound really good ive got to say , just been listening to music and gaming. You know the Front, Rear, Center and sub on the volume control. how high do you have each set, or what colour which is easier to answer

I generally tend to set the volume of the SCU down a bit, as otherwise you can't even get off green and it's really loud. I give the volume down button on the SCU a few clicks and then go just into the blue colour on the volume control box. I don't mess with the default levels for each channel, I find them just fine and I hear a full 360 differentiation between noises very clearly.
Personally, if I was you mate, I'd stick with what I'd brought and not use the soundcard any more, just rely on optical from now on and the SCU to decode the digital signal.
Whether one is better than the other though, I really wouldn't know, what I do know is that the SCU/headphones combination is truly stunning.

Be warned though, you can even have them really quiet and you just can't hear a thing going on in the room, winds my missus up something chronic when she's trying to get my attention, then she taps me on the shoulder and I mess myself 'cos I've been in the middle of a tense bit of AVP lol

If you have a DVD/bluray player with optical, it'll transform your viewing pleasure with those too :)
This discussion has prompted me to bring my Sharkoon's to work and listen to music through them at my desk instead of using the phone's standard in ear headphones.
I look a right pretentious knob but the music's awesome :D
