Me and the other half are looking at going away for a week or so at the end of September and we both quite like the idea of Egypt so we've been looking at sharm el sheikh and it looks like you get a good bit of holiday for your money.
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to stay there or anywhere else that might be good around that time of year.
Our budget is up to £800pp no idea on spending money yet but don't want to have to remortgage just to be able to do anything :D and 5 hours is probably the maximum time we want to be on a plane, also Turkey is a no go as she hates it and refuses to go there.
Thanks for any help :)

It's a bit 'ot at that time of year.

We went at the end of August and it was +40 degrees every day and didn't drop below 30 degrees even at night.

That said, if you're OK with that it's great, but make sure you go snorkelling.

I wen't to Sharm El Sheihk last year with my family. I absolutely loved the place. I stayed in a hotel called: Sunrise Hotel (5 stars) all meals included, they also had a reserved beach area for people staying in their hotel only, so that was nice. 3 years ago I went to Turkey, I didn't enjoy it as much as Egypt though ;)
Only dis-advantages of Sunrise hotel, is that the pool space is very limited, seat wise.

Hope this helped..

I went in November and it was great but im not sure I would go mid summer as it can get stupidly hot.
In a nutshell
Diving- Awesome
Food- Meh
Other guests- Mostly Russians who can be a bit rude/ Impatient :)

Me and the GF were there for 2 weeks last September. It was hot but not unbearably so, it was high 30's every day tipped 40 on some of them. Kind of depends where you stay parts of Sharm itself are a bit inland which is hotter. We stayed in Sharks Bay which is about 5 minutes away and had a decent breeze most of the time.

Trip-wise there is a local company called Sharm Life who are brilliant! Check out their reviews on trip advisor, they do all the same tours as the the package companies except with a way smaller crown. For example, we took a trip to Valley of the Kings/Luxor and there were 4 of us with our own guide versus the Thompson group of around 50 with one guide.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, hmmm might have to rethink this then as I don't deal with heat brilliantly!
I've had a quick look at for the end of sept beginning of oct it looks to be around 30 degrees on average which would probably be my limit.

I went to the sonasta beach resort. I would like to go again. I went for 10 days but you realy need two weeks as you are bound to be out sick for at least 3 days, if you have not been before.

http://www.sonesta.com/SharmResort/

It has 5 pools and its own beach. The main pool has a bar in the pool and the food is very good, all tasty and massive buffet with very high standard eating areas and entertainment at night was ok and just a walk along the beach to the main town.

How comes she hates Turkey so much? personally I'd rather go there than Egypt. Can't comment on Sharm as I've never been there. Seems to be a package holiday type place where you just stay in the hotel complex pretty much. G/f and I prefer getting out and about and exploring a bit on our holidays.

It's one of those "I just don't" women reasons  I've been to Turkey a couple of times though so somewhere different would be nice anyway :)

I've been to Sharm - it was OK. Very relaxing holiday and as everyone says the Red Sea is truly amazing. However, there's not that much there to explore and gets a bit boring unless you're just wanting to sit on a beach doing nothing. My 2p :)

I thought there was a fair amount to do, but as it is a brand new town in the desert there is zero old touristy type places to visit.

But you can get your divers license, cost £200 and over 3 days, there is awesome four wheeler trip you can go on for a day that takes you out in the desert/mountains. But yea that is about it. If you don't like diving or lying next to the pool drinking all day, then you might get bored. my sister went to ciaro by small plane when she was there and she said she regretted it, due to the plane journey.

I like doing nothing so it suits me, have a few activities for a week then spend the rest of the holiday doing nothing but swimming and drinking. :D

Hated Sharm, would never go back ever.

Hotel was nice if a little small but we thought we'd like to go out round Naama Bay etc. as we like to explore, massive mistake wherever you go you are constantly hounded, they won't leave you alone and get very intimidating the only enjoyable things on the holiday were going scuba diving and dune buggy exploring the Nabq National Park.

We have never ever felt so vunerable as in Naama Bay, shop owners are constantly hassling you and follow you everywhere, even stood beside us at the cash machine as we had told him we had no cash. The only way to escape was we went and stood by the Police stand at the top of the road waiting for the taxi to pick us up.

Now we've been to Tunisia 3 times and Turkey and never felt so threatened, in Turkey they asked and by saying "No thank you" they just nodded and let us carry on walking, a million miles from the man-handling in Naama Bay!

Now if it's sun and drinking you want, spend as much as possible on the Hotel and just stay in your complex, should be fine but take some Imodium for the 'travelling brits' which everyone who I know who has been to Sharm has had.

Me and the gf went in June last year for 2 weeks, heatwave for most of it, 45oC most days. It was hard to handle at first but we got the hang of it.

Snorkelling and diving was the highlight, we are going back to do our PADI course soon.

Pretty much what everyone has said is true except for the myth about the polish/russian/eastern europeans.

Me and the gf made a concerted effort to try and mingle with them, if they couldnt speak english they tried hard to, eventually just offering us vodka shots until we were completely wasted!!

You lot have no sense of adventure, a nice warm holiday and a little bit of real life Call of Duty thrown in! Sounds like a bargain ;)
