So I understand why Lidl had these on offer.

Never before have I tasted such a cess pool of flavour from a fruit that looks like a bald orange.

Disgusting.

I quite liked the last ones I tried, very delicate flavour. From a quick Google if you eat an underripe one of some varieties they are apparently inedible which may explain it.

They are somewhat delicate and not outright sweet but i enjoy them. You must have had a very under ripe one as they should be bland with some sweetness at worst.

I will say that i have never had a ripe Sharon fruit from a UK supermarket, the same way that there are never properly ripe mango (just squishy stringy ones or rock solid made-of-wood ones).

I love eating them abroad as they are very fleshy and hearty as fruit goes. Odd thing is, the ones i normally eat are rounder in shape while the ones you buy here seem almost like bell peppers by comparison.

I have them time to time from Waitrose, £1 for a packet of 3, they are delicious, sweet, fragrant and have a lovely taste to them.

You must either be eating the wrong thing or the Sharon fruit you had wasn't ripe or had gone off or something. They are absolutely delicious and extremely nutritious.

Sharon Fruit is a particular variety of persimmon grown in Israel.

When persimmons are a tasty variety and are at the perfect ripeness they are delish but it is hard to get them in this state. They do have a tannic astringency so if you don't like bitterness you won't like them.

They are delicious when ripe, which is usually February. I bought some recently and 2 of 3 were fine when they eventually ripened. So sweet, how can anyone not like these?

Yep love persimmon fruit. Back when I lived in East London you could get giant ones from the fruit markets along Romford Road, oh my those were great :)

From what I've read there not actually very nutritious, they don't have any special nutrients in high numbers.

Apart from fibre, vit C in abundance, some vit. A, lots of Iron and Potassium, some B vitamins, copper and manganese, polyphenolic antioxidants (flavonoids) like catechins, beta-carotene, and lycopene.

But, apart from that, they are nothing special :)

They are AMAZING

We get them in fruit baskets at work when in season. You have to make sure they are really ripe though. They have to be dark orange almost red in colour and slightly squishy - then they taste so good!

They have nutrients but I think there not in big numbers, I'm sure I read this somewhere that or I'm confusing with something else. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Sorry but you are all wrong. Come the new world order ("VIVA EL PREZIDENTI SPG") you will all be shot for liking said fruit.
