I bought the most basic 70-300mm nikkor lens a few years ago now and frankly I've become unimpressed with how soft the images get at the 300mm end of the scale when trying to take a fast picture (wildlife for example) with a wide aperture.
I would like to move on and get a telephoto zoom lens (mainly for wildlife) which wont go soft on me (is this down to better glass? or max aperture?) , doesn't need quite as fast a shutter speed (VR/IS), and is within a budget of say... £350 ish? Less is better as I am poor
The main aim is a sharper image at high zoom. I would be fine with a 200mm lens instead of 300, if it was of a quality good enough that the possible future addition of a teleconverter would not degrade the image excessively.
Would really appreciate any thoughts on this, I think I ma pretty much limited to the nikkor 70-300 with VR (is IF-ED glass good? ).
