Ive never seen it before but from what ive heard it sounds really good ive found the collectors edition for £80 its got all the episodes except the new one sharpes challenge. So whats it like is there a lot of action.

Its not bad. I didn't really see much of it but of what I saw it was worth a watch. I played footy on the nights it was on.

King George commands and we obey, over the hills and far away...

...o'er the hills and o'er the main, through western Portugal and Spain...

Sharpes great

And in one of the episodes you get to see Liz Hurleys norks :D

The accent gets a bit annoying though ;)

I use to really love it when it was on. If I watched it now it would probably look dead crap. I'll probably give the new one a watch, but I have long since realised that ITV makes the worst television possible.

Sharpe is brilliant. Highly cheesey, but it's still awesome.

If you can get over the fact that every battle is represented by about 100 extras not quite knowing what they are doing :D Highly enjoyable war porn IMO :D

Aye and dont read the books first either as you end up wondering WTF this bit came from.
Or why after Sharpes rifles they bare little or no resemblence to them at all.

Yes. Although not as good as some of Cornwell's later stuff. The Warlord triology about Arthur is fantastic. The Grail trilogy set in the hundred years war is only very good.

A lot of them are, but a couple are very weak. you have to read them all in order as a lot of characters come and go throughout.

Good ones:

Rifles.
Company
Sword
Enemy
Honour
Siege
Revenge.
Waterloo.

Weak
Gold.
Regiment.
Devil.

Cheers for that.

I got into Sharpe with a uni friend recently, very enjoyable IMO. Feature length episodes, plenty of humour, and a fair smattering of action.

And yep, you get to Liz Hurleys norks. Mmmmmm....

i read the books first and didnt wonder about anything....the general storylines were the same but obviously things dont stay the same when converted to a TV show, it was understandable that things changed..

I've always found the books to any film are always better, as I'm sure your aware of. I read all the Sharpe books before seeing any of the films.

The Authors website is quite good, and a wealth of information about the Sharpe series can be found Here which it says Sharpes Challenge can be bought as a 2 disc dvd from 1st May :D

On a side note, if you enjoyed following the life/career of Richard Sharpe, you would enjoy a series of books about Richard Bolitho which is set around the same time as Sharpe, but is a naval series.

I've got all the DVD's and have been working my way through them all lately (up to Sharpe's Siege now). They're cracking shows and I'm really looking forward to seeing the new one on Sunday night. Hopefully when it comes out on DVD it'll keep the same box design as the current ones, will look silly in my collection otherwise.
