AFAIK copyright law prohibits the copying of the original disk, even for back up purposes, so in having even an iso image it is in breach of this law.

Add to this the fact that in using a torrent, you are not only downloading the file (which is grey in it's legality), but also uploading to other people which is illegal. If you were to stop any upload whilst downloading, it would be less illegal, but it would defy the point of torrenting.

You all may think my analogy is bad, but it is still just as illegal to me.

Torrenting it, legal? No. Morally right? Yes... in my opinion, you paid for it, they effectivly supplied you with a defective disc (though you or the drive could have been at fault).

Who cares about the legalities, at the end of the day its a huge mission to faf around when in 10 mins you could be just where you started before, practically harming no one.

If the disc was damaged when he originally bought it, then he is "owed" the ability to play, but seeing as it was damaged during his ownership, he has no rights to a free replacement.

That analogy was so bad it needs to be framed and put on a wall somewhere. For a start you can't duplicate your car at will, or steal someone else's and still leave them with the original.

So its like a rental car. If you go to rent a car and it breaks down then you get another one as you have rented the car and it has broken down during your rental period. Does a game license last forever?
