She needs to be stopped!!!

curious what you mean by this.

I suppose a good example would be Dutch Oxfam threatening to stop giving money to support rape victims in Africa unless the money was directed towards female victims rather than male and female victims. This is substantiated by UN Security Council Resolution 1325 which describes wartime sexual violence as something that only affects women and girls. However, we know from our experiences of treating people from places such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Central Africa and the former Yugoslavia that the incidence is high across both genders to the point of equivalence in some conflicts.

I could go on about other stuff but I would be skating on this ice I think. :D

intersting and that is very disturbing. did either the un or oxfam every give any justification for it?

They receive money to deal with perceived problems/issue who are only raised by concerned parties. In this case the concerned parties are not going to come forward. The UN changed it's wording after widespread coverage after the work by people such as the Refugee Law. It's a crap world where we all talk about choice and caring for fellow man but the simple fact it people don't really give a stuff and that bar special intellectually derived interest groups eg gay rights, some black rights, feminists etc, a lot of marginalised groups never get a say or a mention and most people will only give money to kids with cancer or donkey's charities not the real victims on this planet.

(My previous post should have said the UN article did word it like that in the past tense it has now been superceded)

Anyway back on topic: I think it's an interesting one but her logic and the hunting logic is faulty.

I think the one thing the last 40 years of giving money to Africa has demonstrated, if you don't go over yourself, with the money, and spend the money directly doing things, it never ends up where it meant to be.
Then when you have bought the kit and set something up, there is the ongoing problem of stopping the village from selling it to buy something else.

Outside of Europe you might as well be on another planet, nothing is rational.

My eldest daughter and her mate went over to an orphanage in Uganda last year, spent loads on them and apparently it's all gone :(

You can't just send money to places and expect it to get to those that really need it, its just done so you feel better about yourself and ease your own conscience, if you have one.

I personally will never give money to these third world countries so they can have clean water, or clothes or books or whatever they are collecting for. A lot of these people are better off dead, you can send them all the money but if they are still going to grow up in a country where AID's, rape, wars, gangs, kidnappings and all this other crap goes off then are you better off just not sending them anything at all? What needs to be done is a country wide restructuring, get rid of the gangs and the corrupt politicians and actually put a decent infrastructure in the country, give them something to grow up for rather than just keeping them alive to suffer...

I have to admit I laughed SO much at that Steven Spielberg story. I honestly can't believe some people are so stupid, but it's extremely entertaining reading the comments from these people :D

To be fair trotting out the pic of him with Jaws after the Triceratops one was just comedy gold...

I could fight a lion off as they are incredibly paranoid about getting injured it doesn't take much to put them off, they mostly only attack animals that only want to escape, anything that stands it's ground generally survives

I'd pay money to watch that :D
