Shed treatment that wont change the colour - Decking oil?

Hi,

After the very heavy rain yesterday I have noticed that the Ronseal fence and shed preserver that I put about 3 coats on a year ago is no longer repelling the water and is allowing it to soak into the cladding. There is no water inside the shed, but i'd prefer to seal the timber somehow to stop any water ingress.

I do like this Ronseal stuff as its so easy to apply and it goes a long way with it being solvent based. Just Dont want the timber to get any darker and they dont appear to make a clear version.

Would decking oil do the job? Or is there another product I could use? I'm after something that will soak in to the timber, rather than a surface treatment like paint or varnish.

Thanks

Barrettine Premier Wood Preservative is available in clear, & a 5 ltr can, & larger sizes, have found it very good.

It's solvent base, so should soak in.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Think its a similar product to the Ronseal product I was previously using, but it doesn't kill or protect against woodworm, but I don't think that will be a problem in a shed. Especially as it was pressure treated anyway.

The Ronseal Total Wood Preserver Clear, is slightly different, on Ronseal site, they quote 'water repellent qualities do not apply to the clear wood preserver'.

Found a link.

So is the Barrettine clear preservative the same, or does that have a waterproofer added?

I guess they intend the clear to be used under a top coating.

Ronseal clear might be water base, can't find anything to tell me.

Here the link to Ronseal.

The Barrettine clear preservative, brush had to be cleaned in white spirit, as it's solvent based.
When it rain the water just runs off in droplets.

Ahh, that's what was confusing me. Barretine do a 'universal' clear that is in a very similar tin, but it doesn't contain a waterproofing wax, so you can overcoat it.

I think i'll get a tin of the clear stuff to put on for now to protect it over the winter and then I might get a tin of oil in the summer.

Thanks for the help :).
