sheffield or leeds?

im looking to move to either sheffield or leeds. I need a fresh start and i've decided its either one of the 2. I cant decide which one to move to though. Ive looked at house prices, things to do and i just can't decide. The only thing making me worry is the crime in leeds with recent raids, a woman getting followed during the day! Im moving by myself and just a bit nervous. If theres any advise as to which city I should move to please do let me know!

Where are you moving from where Sheffield or Leeds look like attractive options?

Sheffield is an awesome city full of awesome people and will be where I eventually move back to if I cannot get out of the UK. I love how everything is quite close together too, whereas Leeds is absolutely massive and requires taxis.

I dont mind that its massive. I have always been a city person and I like travelling as weird as that sounds. I do like sheffield I have been there a few times, i went to leeds recently and I liked it but im just so unsure on everything

haha no! i just love the area - why ? is there something im missing and just sack off the entire idea?

This is rubbish. You can walk from headingley to the city centre in just over 30 mins.

i would actually concider this seeing as parking is terrible in the centre!!!

Only joking. If your looking for a fresh start in a good city my choice would be Manchester. It’s such a diverse vibrant place with bags of character and a great night life

its more expensive though. plus i love the yorkshire accent. im not about nightlife, i hardly ever go out due to my job.

Leeds isn’t ‘far bigger’ at all. Leeds is England’s 3rd largest, Sheffield is 4th so hardly a massive difference.

I’m biased being a born and bred Sheffielder but taking a balanced view, I think Sheffield edges it for me.

Leeds has better high end shopping (Sheff will catch up a little when the retail quarter gets finished), more higher paid jobs etc. Don’t let this sound like Sheffield is poor because it certainly is not. Sheffield has many very wealthy suburbs.

Personally, I find Sheffield a far more interesting place ..... more bohemian ..... more quirky!

Nightlife is great in both cities but the music scene is probably better here. We have great theatres too.

Both have lovely surrounding countryside but Sheffield easily wins in this department.

And yes our tram system is great too.

I’d still rather live in either city over London which is a vile place. I can cope with it for a weekend or so but it’s soooooo depressing and everyone looks depressed. Not for me at all.

yeh thats fine and all like i love both but im more just worried about the crime rate and which place i will feel safer walking down the road in you know?

I moved from Bristol to Leeds. Did what you want to do, fresh start and all that.

I like Leeds a lot, been living here now for 5 years.

amazing! bristol is a great place too. what areas in leeds should be avoided though?
