I bought shen mue 1 and 2 a while ago for my DC and played through number 1. Today i decided i'd start number 2. Upon beginning the new game all the spoken dialog is in japanese, while everything else is in English. I cant see any options anywhere to change this so what the hell is going on?

original japanese voices are nearly always better than cheesy american voices anyway :D as long as there are subs then its all good.. but i understand some people hate reading subs

See I was always of the opinion that the subtitled Shenmue 2 on the DC was better than dubbed Shenmue 1 i'd rather hear how it was originally intended than hearing "could you tell me where sailors hang out" in some yank accent :p

Then again im also a person who watches Hong Kong marshal arts movies with subtitles and Cantonese voices.

If you'd rather have dubbed then you'd need to get the Xbox version of Shenmue 2 as that was dubbed.

Agree i have both the DC and xbox

its much better on the xbox the graphics are improved and you dont get as much slowdown

To be honest shenmew 2 was pushing the dc and it didnt help that it was rushed to release towards the end of the dcs life

Get it for the xbox

I actually had shenmue 2 on xbox years ago. Played it for a bit but I couldn't get into it having not played the original and being put off by the awful voice acting.

After playing the original I got used to it though, and after giving number two a few sessions i'm coping with reading subtitles :)

The same voice actors were used in the xbox shenmew 2 that were used in the first DC shenmew 1

So if you liked the first shenmew on the DC get the 2nd game on the xbox same voices, no slowdown, better graphics and all on one disc (no disc swapping)

The Xbox port really makes the DC 2nd instalment redundant

I could never get into shenmue 2 for some reason.

I have completed number 1 many a time on the DC but got the 2nd on the xbox.

Must admit for a DC game (on a console with 'only' 8mb of vram) it didn't half look good!

i preferred number 1 but they're both class games. Feel a bit lost now though as I don't have anything to play at the moment which feels like a "proper game". I think i might get majoras mask out and give that another bash as I never got round to finishing it.

Wasnt the Shenmue series supposed to span like 6 or 7 games? And then after number 2 it just ceased to be until Shenmue Online was announced. Noones knows of any plans regarding volumes 3-7 do they?

Shenmew games cost LOADS to make and because they were released on the DC and Xbox 1 (both consoles having a much smaller consumer base the say a PS2) they never made a profit
The fact it was released for the xbox was because it was just a port

I am afraid to say with the death of the DC came the death of shenmew

In Shenmue the acting always seemed terrible and was the only real downside to the experience. In Shenmue II however the voices were all in Japanese and added authenticity. The Japanese voiceovers may have been equally horrendous but I'd never know :)
