How long does this game take and Shenmue 2?

I mean I guess its like RPG main quest 20hours + side quests 50hrs etc?
+ mini games unlimited hours?

Whihc is bettter? which is longer?

I have only played the second one. I could'nt pull myself away from it. Amazing game that I put so many hours into and still did'nt end up finishing. If I had an xbox, I would most probably play it again. :)

Well I have played Yakuza 3 it was ok but some of the story was too dull and the fighting got repetitive plus the world was tiny with hardly any free roam.

It depends on your playstyle. I cannot put a time limit on the games as it took me well over three weeks to complete Shenmue 1 although I did have to go to work etc in that time too so not sure how long in game hours it actually took. I have always preferred the first game. I prefer the setting, the story and get a better vibe from it, but Shenmue 2 is still a awesome experience. Buy em both!

You probably won't like the Shenmue games then if that's the case since the limited-free roam areas are structured similarly in both series, and the stories are too East Asian for most people not familiar with the style. The Yakuza series is basically like a spiritual successor to Shenmue in terms of the game design.

When it comes to the fighting mechanics of either games, personally I think Shenmue has a better fighting system since it is like a brawler version of Virtua Fighter, though still quite clunky.

Other things include that Shenmue is fully voiced acted, and the world & NPC interaction is more advanced than Yakuza.

well thats what I elt let down with yakuza. It was far too linear and fixed. There was basically ZERO NPC interaction. YOu couldnt explore areas and people it had minimal RPG elements.

It basically couldve been streets of rage with some cut scenes to make a story.

I hope Shenmue is better I just forked out for a dramcast et al

Oh Shenmue is easily better, though the RPG elements and like Yakuza, is quite lite since the only thing that you "level up" is the character's fighting moveset. It's more an Adventure game mixed with Fighting and small RPG.

Unlike Yakuza where you use EXP points to increase the skills, Shenmue requires you finding a few from story progression, and using the moves in actual fights or suburi training (Like in real life). Moves grow stronger the more you use them.

Oh right there wasnt much adventure element to Yakuza.

For me it seemed a linear story progression with intermittent fights. You just moved along the path kinda linearly. There was a few searching and find stuff quests.

To sum it up, it's a Japanese-arse Japanese-game. :p

And like the JRPG genre, they are mostly story first, gameplay second. Linearity is pretty much a staple part of them, and to be honest, I don't really mind.

Still, I enjoy the hell out of these games, and got many hours worth in Yakuza 3. I haven't had to time to complete Yakuza 4 yet.

Shenmue really is no different, and you are kind of limited in time as well, but then part of it is that it tries to emulate a real-life and living and breathing world which is what makes it so great.

Yeah the side-quests make up most of the % and there's quite a lot.

I just hate the ones to do with some of of the sports mini-games. The batting cage side-quest can go **** itself for all I care. That will mean I miss out on some hidden stuff, but that one pees me off the most.

I never even tried that one

Plus there was karaoke, golf etc..I dunno what else. I only really done the main game. Though I played karoke for a while lol

Also is Y4 worht buying?AN improvement on 3?

I have Yakuza 1 and 2 in my cupboard for PS2 unplayed. Well tbh I played 30mins off yakuza 1 and it seemed better than Yakuza 3 it had a prison fight and stuff lol.

Yakuza 4 adds some newer areas, like the fact that you can run around the rooftops, and 4 main characters including Kiryu to expand and offer different perspectives on the main story.

It is basically Yakuza 3 but with even more content, but unlike 3, nothing is cut out compared to the original Japanese version (Apart from the trivia game), so that means other side stuff/mini-games we won't miss out on i.e. Mahjong, massage palour and dating stuff.

I have played 1 hour of shenmue.

Basically I just walk along and interact with people and find more info where to go next. I have not had any fights yet .

Does the rest of the game just remain like this?

Is Shenmue 2 the same.

its a bit dull tbh dunno if i cba to continue
