Does anyone know how these have been published?

Id like to read the books that inspired the series if possible but im not sure how to go about this, ive looked up the original author but im not certain on what to look for in terms of the novels worth reading.

Anyone got any info on this?

Regards.

A lot of the actual stories are free on the Kindle store. If you're trying to map the TV episodes to the books then Wikipedia has a decent list.

If you have a Kindle you can get the ultimate collection for 99p. If not, you can purchase the paperback for a fiver.

I love Sherlock Holmes. They are written brilliantly and every one is an enjoyable yarn.

Read every one. Most are short stories and even the novels are really novellas. They are a perfect bedtime read. Try and read them in published order as even though they are individual stories, there is a storyline through them all. For example, you have to read the Reichenbach Falls before you read the Empty House.

Only one Sherlock Holmes, Basil Rathbone.

Wrong!

Ive just purchased the paperback as i want to read them at work, i found another thread from years back and some fella had posted some really detailed information so i managed to find what i wanted :D

Thanks for all your help and advice, really looking forward to their arrival, ended up purchasing £25 quids worth of books, like 7 in total, i already have 1 and a half to finish at the moment lol..

Better get my reading cap on!

Got fed up with digital and tatty copies of the stories so we bought the complete works for around twenty quid:

A beautiful volume (Barnes & Noble) if you can still find it.

I'm just reading the sign of the four. This is my first time through the whole series and I'm loving them. I got the complete set for Xmas :)

Whats the difference between that and the Wordsworth editions?

Is that just a single book or did you also get an all in one style book?

Thanks to everyone for your comments, really looking forward to their arrival!

The sign of the four is 2 books in 1 along with a Study in Scarlet. This is the set I got:

I'm already dreading finishing them I'm enjoying them that much, I'm already planning re-reading them when I finish. If I'd not bought the new CoD and tried to distract myself from reading all of the time I would've completed them twice over by now, just since Xmas day.

Cheers for the info, just bought the ultimate collection - bargain for 99p :)

The same stories content wise.

The Barnes & Noble version has leather binding and fine gilt edged paper. I believe that one of the Wordsworth editions has illustrations by Sidney Paget which appeared in The Strand magazine when stories were published.
