So the first episode of the new season aired this evening.

The Mrs and I have just finished watching it and must say, loved every second. So glad to see this show back for another batch. I am not going to say too much as I don't want to spoil it for any who haven't watched it yet. Great acting, great plot and some mind bending twists. Cannot wait so see next instalment.

Added bonus, also having the surname Holmes! :)

Series two. Not season. We don't get seasons in the UK.

I loved every bloody second of that though. So so good.

Never watched the first series, but enjoyed this.

Are they all based on actual Conan-Doyle novels?
(i'll answer my own question, based on 'A Scandal in Bohemia')

Overall I really enjoyed it but I have to say I didn't think it flowed as well as previous episodes, sort of floundered around in the middle a bit.

I have been looking forward to this series ever since the last one finished. It didn't disappoint, it was bloody brilliant. Plus, Lara Pulver - Om nom nom.

I just wish more things on TV were like this - why is Moffat wasting his time doing several poor episodes of Doctor Who when he could be modernising more Sherlock Holmes - are 3 episodes really worthy of a series? :(

ps3ud0

While I do enjoy Sherlock, I thought season One was fantastic and Season Two is already looking fantastic too, I think Moffat could be a problem further down the line.

I put Dr Who's decline down to him.

I picked up the series 1 blu ray for £6 (to watch again) before this came out!

As already said there should be more things like this on TV.

I agree there should be more than 3 episodes, but i would rather have the 3 great episodes than 6 poor ones :)

Given that iirc they are nearly 90 minutes each, which is about twice that of an American episode of anything (or four times even), I'd guess so.
Even the likes of Rome or Dexter are only about the equivalent of maybe 4-5 of these episodes in real run time (excluding recaps, credits and ad bumpers), and British TV has often gone for something like 6 hours per series per year.

Remember this isn't a sit-com like friends where they can film it quickly on one or two main sets, nor is it a series like Lost or 24 where they can happily split it into 3+ groups for filming, these are episodes that are more like a film with the main actor in most scenes thus probably take a long time to film just 3x 90 minute episodes (and the cast/crew probably don't want to spend all year doing just one thing*).

It was very good though :)

*Besides anything else it can lead to them getting sick and tired of it very quickly.

Could the 3 episodes have something to do with a certain film being made about a certain Hobbit too :)

What a thoroughly entertaining episode that was and I can’t wait for the next one. Another example of the BBC at its best. :)

How did I not know this was on? I bet it was exclusively advertised before and after Eastenders as that'd explain my not knowing :D

Anyone know if it's repeated in HD this week or am I doomed to download it fron iPlayer?
