Just got an x1900XT . My monitor is a Viewsonic VX910. I run it at 1280 X 1024.
With the new cats (6.3) I'm getting a slight shimmering effect whilst displaying my desktop.
My question is, should I keep the refresh rate set to 60 as this is the native setting for the monitor or does the X1900XT require a higher refresh rate ?

"Just got a X1900" -> is this a new card in a new system? if not what did you have in there before? If its a nvidia card you should probably read up on how to totally remove all traces of it before installing the ati drivers.
If its an ati card you should probably run driver cleaner to remove any muck that was left from the last driver installation.

Ive not tried the 6.3's yet - but loadsamoney hasnt complained about them... and shimmering on the desktop would be a pretty easy spot :}

By shimmering do you mean flickering? as in the refresh rate? if so LCD's dont flicker like CRT's, unless they have a dodgy backlight.

It's always best to keep the monitor at it's defalt refresh setting.
