Shiny New Macbook Air!

I'd love one of these, I think I'd have to go for the 128Gb one as you couldn't really fit Logic onto a 64Gb drive!

the more I use it, the more I realise that a backlit keyboard would have been most welcome (although I've never had a backlit keyboard before) - I think its the black keys... If they left it off for a genuine reason (highly unlikely) then fair enough but you just know its so they can pop it back in the next revision to make people like me "upgrade"! - grrrrr!

Ha, yes, aren't they just - but that wasn't the point :D

Yeah I see your point but surely if you got an Air you would have or at least be planning to just use external storage for anything like music/movies/photos etc...seeing as the price of external drives nowadays are nearly on par with normal hard drives it hardly seems worth all the hassle of replacing it in the Air.

MBP on the other hand I understand. :)

I actually really like my new external-hard-drive-embracing setup :) - I like having the full lightroom and itunes libraries on the external which means any of my macs can use them :)

I still let Time Machine back it up to a much bigger HDD so everything stays safe ;)

Yeah - it's not my main system. All my main storage is either on my MBP (240Gb SSD+1Tb SATA drive) or no my Mac Mini with buckets of external storage.

Most of the stuff on the Air tends to be transient data.

ive got the 11" 128gb 2gb 1.4 model on its way to mo on friday. i wanted the 4 gb model but apples finance system is a bit to fussy and couldnt get one on finance. so had to order one though somewhere else that only sells the 2gb model. really gutted but its th eonly way i could get one as i couldnt pay of one outright. dangit..

cant wait to get it tho!.

wanna use it for basic photo editing, web surfing, vids, and the usual gumpf. hoping to put bootcamp on it too so can split the 128 ssd into 2x 64's and dual boot win 7.

:D

I do like the little uns, but I personally preferred the 13".

I got the 13" 256GB / 2.13GHz / 4GB one. Absolutely love it! Far faster than it should be by rights..

made the decision to go for the dock on the left due to the 16:9 ratio, gives me a bit more usable real estate :)
Same!
On my 15" MBP I always had it on the bottom, but keep it to the left on the MBA.

Definitely the way forward ;)

:D

EDIT: the only thing about having the dock over at the left is when programs like photoshop have toolbars at the left the dock pushes them over which looks a bit screwy... so I tend to switch to an auto-hide dock for those occasions using cmd+alt+d ;)

After a good few days usage, Here's an update of my feelings...

Still can't believe how different the real life speed of this thing is compared to what you would expect on paper... it is perfectly happy to have moderate LR & PS tasked thrown at it! - I'm glad I went with the bottom model as I really don't think I would have noticed any power difference since to me, this really is lightning!

All in all, this post is to reaffirm for people that unless they want the larger storage or screen, the bottom model really is a capable little gem ;)

(Still wish it had a backlit keyboard though... literally my only gripe!)

p.s. Using it with a MiFi from 3 now so I haven't even lost the "always connected" niceties of the iPad :) - another purchase I'm very happy with :)
