Hi Guys,

I have built a PC for my nephew, his first PC, so he is very excited to receive it, it is in a Cooler Master Elite 130 and needs to go from London to Milan, now the fun part.

I was shocked to see how rubbish curriers are, I see more and more big companies working on the borderline of ridicolous:

DPD: They do not allow any battery, for that matter not even watches hence I assume they'd refuse the parcel due of CMOS battery.

DHL: German efficiency? More like laughable rules, not only they do not cover damages for computer which I think is fair in case some people do not pack them properly, but also do not cover for loss of parcel which to me is like allow their own staff to steal computers, I understand the damage, fair enough, however if you lose a parcel and have an insurance on it bought with the service you ought to cover it as the content has no relevance, if I pay for £1000 because for me the context is worth that much and I pay £300 (example) for an insurance, it is an insurance. I found this utterly disgusting.

So here I am to check if any of you had any experience and can suggest a service that does not cost £500 to send a PC within Europe.

I thought about removing the Cmos battery and ask my brother in law who is quite PC Savvy to buy one...however that is last resort, sham DPD offers such a poor service as if a cmos battery is going to do anything.

Suggestions are apprecciated!

I'm sure you will be fine sending it via DPD. I have sent many motherboards abroad with them and never had a problem as I'm sure they mean no loose batteries.

Something like a CMOS battery won’t be an issue.

Either DPD road or DHL Economy should serve you fine. The chance of loss is tiny - just make sure it’s really well packed. We send a lot of valuable goods by DHL every day.

Pack it well, especially internally around the heatsink. Indeed, if it's a big air-cooler you would be well advised to remove it and send it separately.

Hi Guys,

Thank you all, yes I wanted to use them as my Overclockers parts always arrived via DPD and always in perfect shape! However on the list of items it states even "Watches" as item they do not ship which seems rather stupid, that made me think about the cmos battery as that is a watch kind of battery.

DHL a big no, on the website it says that not only they do not cover damages (which seems common and again I understand) they also do not cover in case of theft which is a bad joke, as if the content changes...unless they know something we don't :)

Tomorrow will give DPD a call to find out, I am sure they do not scan each and every box but that would not be honest and one also risk to have the item rejected and returned, the little boy cannot wait to get his hands on it :D

Will pack it well, got plenty of packing stuff around the house and I will probably buy some foam sheets too as it is a bit of a journey from London to Milan :)

hand luggage fly there yourself in a few weeks. Meet at airport get back on plane home.

See the pointless move from UK with pointless and late 14 days quarantine NOW, most countries are retaliating, cannot waste a month between the two really :)

200sols I though about it but they scan parcel if they see a battery it is written the item is returned at the sender expenses...will call later and update here in case it comes useful to someone.

Thank you, strange that on Parcel2Go they have different terms and conditions on that, I will give them a call nevertheless, I prefer to use them as in years as buyer never had an issues, bought even tempered glass case from here which was shipped with DPD and the box arrived in mint conditions.

Ah Parcel2Go are a reseller, so they'll have a blanket set of T&Cs that will often be more restrictive than those offered by the courier themselves.

So I spoke with DPD...

DPD that Overclockers uses isn't DPD we can use, the "red logo" is for businesses and often in that case they actually transport items they would not otherwise.

DPD Local is for consumer, said that DPD Local and DPD Online (both blue logos for consumers) are a separate entity :D just to make things easy... anyway it seems DPD Blue should ship computers without issues or restrictions, the operator on the phone checked online and to be honest doing so myself isn't on the list of forbidden items.

DPD LOCAL (blue sign) did the trick :) they have been super quick with amazing tracking service all the way from pick up to delivery, which was one day before and the box was as I sent it (okay the PC was super super well packed).

I had to use DHL for the monitor as DPD does not allow any monitor size, DHL does up to 32inches, DHL isn't as precise as the French of DPD, tracking only showed pick up then nothing else until delivery which was one day late, however it was quite cheap, shame for the tracking really.

All in all if you have to send abroad as private person this is a great combo, DPD for companies isn't comparable as they said they do send items they do not send for private users.

Now we have a new happy PC Master Race boy out there :D

Unfortunately even if you send via DPD in the UK it will get handed off to either a subsidiary of DPD or a third party that operates in Italy.

UPS, DHL or Fedex. They are not cheap but that's who we use at work for international shipments.

At the moment I’d only feel comfortable sending by DHL in Europe, FedEx and UPS are absolutely horrible at the moment!
