Has anyone had any experience with shipping a large TV, roughly 40" ?
What courier did you use?
Any damage to the unit itself, and what is insurance/compensation like?
How did you package the unit? (I was thinking of just putting a lot of bubble wrap in between the gaps)

Thanks :)

Yeah, I thought that, as TVs are listed as prohibited items on most if not all courier sites haha.
Although I am still wondering if anyone actually managed to ship their TV without damage

Parcelforce will cover LCDs for damage upto a certain size.

Ideally the best way to send them is in the original box strapped securely to a pallet. That way they can't tip over and items can't be dropped onto the screen.

For strange size and delicate items I use Parcel2Go.

They give you really good deals on couriers such as UPS and the insurance is cheaper too.

Basically you tell em what it is and where it is going and they find and order the courier for you. UPS often comes out cheaper than Cowboy Force and chity link.

I was very hard pushed finding a courier that would include cover for both LOSS and DAMAGE to a Monitor, I'm guessing the same for a TV. Most will say they cover them but if you check T+C's they will only cover for loss.

They wont insure a tv, parcelforce direct is one of few companies which will

Thanks for the replies guys.

@ste_bla, I just had a look on parcelforce direct's website, and it seems they don't compensate for TVs

Would packing it in its original box with a lot of bubble wrap on the sides to prevent any sort of movement then reinforced with some more card boards be advisable?

and how much are pallets anyway, and where can you get them?

Sending it on a pallet would probably be very expensive and none of the main couriers carry them. I would say if you are using all the original packaging it should be fine.

forgot to mention, the TV will be shipped from UK Mainland to Norther Ireland so hiring vans isn't an option.

has anyone had experience with interparcel?

I had to return a 3008" dell to OCuk once
Sent it parcel farce , was about 30 to send it + 34 for insurance ( 1K was value of monitor)

I then had to shame them on their forums into paying me back what I paid out for

You will probably find it difficult to get insurance for a TV m8, will be sent at your own risk.

How does retailers such as Amazon cover their backs when shipping TVs? If a TV arrives at a customer's address damaged, is it Amazon who foots the bill due to the courier not honouring it? Seems a bit unfair for the courier to deny responsibility if the TV was packaged correctly in its original box and foam padding.

P.S. - avoid Yodel.

Account customers all have different terms ie if ur big enough and send a lot they will change rules ie parcelforce say try neighbours and don't carry firearms; for big accounts they will take firearms (minus firing pin making it useless) or agree not to del to neighbours (one of ocuk big competitors)

All del firms do it

I used a moving company called sevenseas to ship all my stuff back to Australia and they have an option to ship big screen tele's. Now I haven't recieved my stuff yet so I can't fully recommend them but they were pretty proffesional when they picked my stuff up.

Did an online quote to ship a tv from london to belfast and it was about £111
