Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I have to ship my old q8300 processor tomorrow and I was wondering is a anti static bag essential? I have heard mixed things about it. I also should add I don't have any of the original packaging.

Thanks to anyone who helps.

Processors are not shipped in antistatic bags usually in a box, the cpu is surrounded buy a plastic cover.

If you have to ship it, i suggest you wrap it a plastic cover surrounded by packaging like bubble wrap to protect the processor.

If you have none of the original packaging then you'll really need to be careful. Remove the processor carefully without bending pins (might be worth taking a photo of it with serial numbers and to show pins are all intact when shipping) and place the pins onto a soft surface, you can get bits of soft foam or sponge and then pace it in a tight fitting box with bubble wrap.

Core 2's don't have pins on the CPU.

Last CPU I sent I bubble wrapped, then put a small piece of cardboard around the CPU, then put that into another small box.

The last CPU I received was sent with anti static, bubble wrap then put in a jiffy bag! Still worked and looked perfect when I unwrapped it, but I wasn't overly impressed.

To be fair non-pinned LGA cpus are much more resilient and a jiffy bag is probably fine if adequate padding is used. The IHS will have to be bent for any 'real' damage to occur and that would take some doing.
