Shipping large desktop pc's via shipping container around the world. My thoughts are to remove the gpu as it's the heaviest component mounted on the mobo and any jolting/bouncing could result in mobo damage .. thoughts anybody??

Depending on what is in there the CPU cooler could be worse for moving around than the GPU.
If you're going to the hassle of removing the GPU you could remove all the components, as GPU is the largest. It depends who is putting it together on the other end.

I would check out Expanding Foam Packaging. Some retailers use something similar to ship their PCs. Chemical reaction expands the foam around all components securing it in place.

I have a Corsair closed loop so that's small and light .. the gpu has a fair bit of weight to it and is horizontal to the ground. so a hard jolt up or down might be enough to damage mobo .. well that's my way of thinking ..

I would remove cpu, ram and gpu, put them in anti static bags, then bubble wrap and ship.

Re-assemble other end...no harm in renewing the tim on the cpu anyway.
