I'm thinking of dusting of my hookah (quite litterally) and I need some recommendations on what tabacco to try out.

I bought some herbal tabacco last time and I was disappointed in it, hardly any flavour and it didn't last very long. So I want to try out the real stuff this time.

I also heard some people say that the charcoal can affect the flavour, has anyone found this to be true? I'm still using some cheap stuff I picked up in Egypt :p

apple all the way.

Or cherry.

Strawberry is nice, but a bit too sweet for my liking.

Bare in mind you can also mess around with the water to. Try using flat lemonade for example with mint tobacco. Very good result :)

After spending of my summer around Arabs, I have found that usually adding a bit of mint tobacco to any other flavour you want is usually a good idea.
Think my recommendation would be apple + mint. If you want to try something a bit different then take some mint tobacco and mix in some blueberries, one of my favourite blends.

Al Fakher is the brand that most shisha cafes stock and that is considered to be one of the best brands out there. Personally I only like their mint flavour because it is strong and lasts absolutely ages.

Nakhla is one of the cheapest brands, but I like their double apple and orange flavours. I tend to mix the Nakhla orange and Al Fakher mint (only a little bit of mint because it overpowers most flavours).

Starbuzz and Fantasia are American brands and can be difficult to source in the UK (I have placed mass orders from the USA in the past and luckily haven't been bitten by customs charges). Starbuzz's Blue Mist (blueberry) is absolutely amazing as is Fantasia's pink lemonade, blueberry and margarita flavours. With these flavours you ideally want a phunnel bowl so the juice stays at the top rather than flowing down the stem.

With regards to coal... avoid the quick lights like a plague. They smell and taste horrible and are far worse for you because of the carcinogenics. You can buy bags of natural wood coal which you can cook on a stove (gas or hotplate) and they are a lot better and don't affect the taste of your shisha. The downside is they take about 5 mins to light, but once you have 1 or 2 blocks lit, you put a third on top of them whilst smoking to that lights by the time the first two have started going out.

Try this, it's called Marijuana or something. Heard it was wild.

Al Fakher are what I've always had when we have the shisha set up. Most of them taste the same after a while! Mint always seems the strongest flavour.

Smoked a couple in Tunisia, nice to have when the sun is setting and you have a coffee :)
