Shock absorbers help

Hi

I need to replace the front shocks absorbers as one is leaking oil, but I had a quick look at euro car parts but their is 2 different size's a 50mm & 55mm Housing Diameter, I sent a email to ask them but still no reply

Also gas or oil

VW golf mk5 2004

Get the VAG part number and ask for the equivalent.
Maybe you need the PR-number from the sticker in the wheel well?
Are their PR numbers on the ECP page? There often is.

Excluding some exotic suspension (and ancient stuff on vintage cars), all normal suspension dampers use oil as the damping medium.

The difference is that "gas" dampers use a low pressure nitrogen charge to help prevent the oil foaming (which degrades the damping performance), so gas dampers are the higher performance items and the majority of OEM dampers are gas dampers these days.

As for the damper diamater, you could just nip out to your car and measure them? You should be able to get enough access by just jacking one corner and putting the steering on full lock.
