hia im getting really low FPS in melee combat. it drops down into teens with full stack armies. i have two msi 6950's in xfire and gpu usage in battles goes down to 30%. is that my CPU bottlenecking my GPU's?? its an i7 920 @ 4ghz HT off.

drivers are up to date with latest caps.

i know this game is badly optimized but this is surely taking the biscuit...

game settings are all ultra apart from paticle quality. soft shadows off, SSAO off HDR off tessilation off

It isn't THAT badly optimised tbh when you consider all the calculations in the game.

Your specs sound fine though, I certainly don't get any slow down. Try posting on one of the fan forums - twcentre is pretty good.

i had a battle with about 29 unit cards on each side and the gpu usage went down into the low 20's. !! it does use both gpu's, especially in the campaign map it will use them both pretty much at 99% each.

I can't say I noticed any major FPS drops even with max size armys so I have never monitored the GPU % while playing.

Perhaps it is the CPU that's your bottleneck?

I wouldn't have thought the I7 920 would cause a bottle neck but could be wrong. Is your cpu at 100% use when it lags?

Mine definitely struggles on the campaign map, I can only assume because of all the tesselation and particle effects (i.e. the clouds).

For an AMD optimised game, is certainly isn't very optimised. AMD don't seem to have improved performance in this game in ages...not that I am aware of anyway?

To be honest, it doesn't seem that bad seeing as you can do the same with Rome Total War even today :p

id much rather them make an engine focusing on scale and not graphics. prefer torun the Rome engine optimized for 20,000 v 20,000 than photo realistic graphics that struggle with a few thousand men.

And 20k versus 20k on Rome runs awfully if you're running it with some AA etc.

I was running the 12.4s, but did the trick where you can get the game to run under older drivers. It should be running on 11.6b. Helped stop the flickering I was getting in-game.

ye im getting flickering aswell. using 12.3.

how can you get the game to run under a cetain driver??

yes i know. what i was saying is id rather have an engine like rome that was optimized for such a battle. never stated it can run 20K vs 20K.

If Rome can bring my PC to its knees and Shogun 2 can also do the same thing, while looking a lot better, I'm not sure how Shogun 2 is a problem?
