Not seen anyone discussing this yet!

Shogun was such a breath of fresh air when it first came out, it's still my favourite and none of the other TW games have really engaged me the same way (Although Rome came close)

I think the smaller scale appeals to me more. I always found the other TW games too large, they just didn't interest me as much as the smaller map/number of factions in Shogun.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

I'll probabley get it but I'm dissapointed that it isnt Rome 2. I'm 50+ hours into a Rome campaign right now I just love the diversity. They dropped the ball after Rome total war IMO.

Well I only really got into my Total War games when Medieval II came out so for me I loved that one. Never played any expansions and yet to play Empires although I'm hearing that it's one of the worst in the series. That's a bit of a disappointment since a colonial Total War game is the one I been looking forward to the most!

It was the worst in the series, imo. Rome or Shogun is the best Total War game to date.

^Dissagree.

I liked rome and shogun and Med I with all expansions, but MedII is this best for me.

As for this release of Shogun 2... YYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS!

:D Woohoo.

I now want Rome II and Med III. :p

Didnt you find the AI in Med 2 lacklustre ?

I thought that the game looked pretty enough but the AI sucked big time for instance if you were being besieged and you sallied the enemy just stood there letting you wittle them down to nothing with arrows.

Not worse or better than any other total war game, including Empire tbh. On hard it could be crazy.

Mods like heavy metal and other realism mods helped somewhat.

Battle AI was generally ok imo. More often than not.

I thought Rome had better AI . Though to be honest I never bothered with any realism mods. Only mods I used were the ones that made the map bigger.

I'll have to check that heavy metal out.

Med II was good too, but it felt a bit easy because you could build more than one unit at a time, which I'm not saying isn't realistic or anything, but it made it too easy to build big armies.

M2TW lacked challenge for me. The original you really had to be on your game or you got pounced on. In M2TW you get your hand held and the ai never uses more then basic troops.

Mtw was the best in the series I think. Rome was good, though I never actually complete a campaign on it. I dont think the balance in rome was so good, though in a way that is more realistic as not all countries are as powerful as each other. The end game was definitely best in rome where you had to defeat the powerful roman armies. The end game in all the others is a walk over. Though the mongols and tirmids are a challange. Really looking forward to shoguan 2, though I hope they dont make it like kingdoms. I didn't like kingdoms.

O and yes, empire was a disgrace. Especially when it took them how long to fix the bug which made ships randomly sink? Or did they never fix it and it was a game feature? I had a ship sink the moment the battle started once!

Only if you have the economy in the first place.

And you can only build more than one unit at a time when you have prerequisit buildings, town guard .. garrison etc

Pretty easy to get though. I found I had to make game rules to provide a challenge. For example if I play Germany and I take out Denmark and the Italian factions I will be loaded beyond belief. Move over to the British isles and I don't think I could spend all my money if I tryed. All can be acomplished with standard armys as well, or just lots of cavalry. 4/5 generals can decimate armys if used properly on their own.

Also I beleive the record for beating the game is 7 or 9 turns.

Awwwww I quite like Empire myself as well as napoleon. I guess i'm just like all total wars but can't wait till Shogun with the samurai!

I've played the TW series since Shogun 1 and generally loved 'em. The series does have bloody awful bugs consistently, though; especially when trying to use units on castle walls...

Empire, as said above, was a disgrace. No matter what I did I couldn't win a sea battle. Actually, there are too many negative aspects for me to be bothered listing them!

Ditto, I love all the TW games.
I don't think Empire was the worst though, just the most different! I found it harder to get to grips with the new tactics and the three theatres of war. But I still very much enjoy it! (went back to it after trying Napoleon - NTW is shiny and new but too limited IMO).

Rome as many have said is no doubt the best.
But, if they can improve Shogun with what they've learnt over the 6 (blimey!) titles, without losing the simplicity and shear joy of the original, then it's set to be a winner!
