Hi all, recently I dug out my Medieval 2 Total War, and decided to read some forums about it before playing. It seems a lot of ppl complain that in ME 2 TW the AI is not very good and very easilly abusable. Then i seem to remember the Shogun had pretty damn good AI from what i remember. I quite liked the idea of a blast into the samurai era... however i cannot find CD1 :(

My question is what do ppl think Shogun:TW > Medieval 2 TW?

And how was the mongol invasion expansion? If ppl rate well i think ill just go out and buy Shogun TW Warlord edition for £5 somewhere in town.

I wouldnt mind seeing an up to date Shogun, though at the moment my favourite total war by far is Medieval 2 with the Stainless Steel mod

Shogun is worth it for the ninja assassination vids alone

The mongol invasion bit doesn't add a whole lot, some big horsey fights though. I'll never get tired of hearing the thundering hooves of a thousand mongol horsemen coming over a hill.

Wow, I used to play this like an obsessed child, what an awesome game. Would love an updated version of it too.

I prefer the setting and such in Shogun, but obviously love the graphics and general engine differences in MTW2.

i would try DLV if you want a more "hardcore" experiance. SS is simply a few remodels and some other mod's stuck together. DLV is akin to EB for RTW

the reason shogun seems better is it was so basic with about 6 different units it was very easy to make the computer understand whats happening. now we have greater variation. and CA lost several of its best coders after MTW,

i actually think M2 with DLV or MTW were the best games personally. they would have attracted a lot of stick if they remade STW after M2 so i think ETW was the way to go, hopefully they stop going down the current route of bad support and early releases.

M2 is definitely my favourite. I didn't think the AI in shogun was really all that great, and the game was really unbalanced, it was easy just to make an army out of archers and spear men (Yari) and plonk them on a hill somewhere.

That said, the M2 AI wasn't perfect either.

Good call for Deus Lo Vult (DLV) I was actually scanning the TWC forums for mods and looked at the ones with the most posts :) DLV and Stainless Steel came up but i think SS is Kingdoms only where as DLV released 4.0 just before kingdoms was out. It weighs in at 500+mb and im dling as we speak.

I wonder what i shall start as :D

M2 was a letdown, Rome total war is by far the best.. But the new kingdom total war I think it is called looks amazing,

The new ship battles will really add to the game also every other total war sea battles just seemed to be random events that made little to nonsense.

i have 10 ships he has 4 ships, i sink 1 of his ships and get defeated! :D

SS is for non-kingdoms too, but you're right, the best 2 mods I have played so far are SS and DLV.

they are based on ship stats and numbers :p i cant say they felt random at all

I really somehow doubt the AI in a 7+ year old game would be better than M2TW.
The AI in M2TW is ok - it manages to flank a lot and make feints. But, like Crysis, there's a lot of stupid moments. Worst of all, enemy generals going on suicide missions to your army.

Btw..

In what way does RTW better M2TW at all?
