I thought about posting a creating a meaningful discussion about this in Speakers Corner, but I realised not many people would see it.

So instead, a more general picture. Yes Shooting Dogs is a BBC Film which is currently showing at Cinemas, which I went to see tonight.

I was relatively young when the genocide and ethnic cleansing that took place in Rwanda occured. However I never realised the extent of how many were murdered.

At the end of "Shooting Dogs", some simple facts were displayed:

800,000 people were killed.

2,500 on the 11th of April 1994. Which is the day that the film is based on.

I really urge you to go and see this film. It is absolutely outstanding, if you can call a film about rape, murder and genocide that.

It was filmed with the help of those who experienced the genocide and the coup of old government. Which made it even more powerful.

What I felt was a shame, was that we watched it in a small screen, with maybe 6 other people in there max. Whilst the cinema was completely rammed full of people watching teen flicks. Everyone watching our film, left in silence.

Afterwards it made me wonder, what was going through my head on 11th April 1994. I was most likely playing at school, and having lessons. Totally oblivious of what was happening thousands of miles away.
