Just saw this and it looks pretty interesting:

Somewhere between Quake and Tribes but with TrackMania style map editing and huge amounts of game modes.

Video is a bit long and blah-y but the game looks pretty awesome :)

(couldn't find any dedicated threads about this with ye search)

That has potential! Had to watch with no audio due to being at work, but I like what I see so far. Could be great fun.

Looks too much style over substance too many "wouldn't this be really cool" type ideas rammed into it. Granted once its been developed more probably some better maps/people would make some better maps but so far the gameplay is horribly flat and 1 dimensional, lots of bouncing around and "promode" style wannabeness.

Probably just my tastes but would rather see some in your face grittiness to it rather than promode style prancing about.

Lets just hope they do away with the "pay per environment" model.

Completely sucks for Trackmania :(

That would indeed suck. I got the impression from the video that it was more about community-created maps that are shared with other players (for free). Hopefully that's correct :s

I can't really see the style over substance you're talking about. The game is fairly basic in terms of looks and with blocky environments. The bouncing around all over the place doesn't really seem that terrible if you ever played RA or CA/etc.

What would you describe as "in your face grittiness", out of interest?

It is from my understanding.

So, for example you would only be able to use assets from the "Canyon" terrain when making custom maps.

Their plan is that Trackmania/Questmania/Shootmania etc all take place in the same terrain then the new terrain will be purchaseable for all games at the same time.

I can see the direction they are taking it might not be the most obvious yet but theres a lot of hints at whats influencing the direction they are taking. (Look at stuff like nexuiz). I played a lot of rocket/clan arena and it might be a bit bouncy but it had a better tactical feel to the gameplay.

Not quite sure how to describe it but watch any OSP/QL 1v1 duel on maps like dm6, ztn, etc. the contact is very direct very few wasted shots (sure theres some spam but its usually tactical supression) granted from a quick look the videos appeared to be of players using a controller not keyboard + mouse but it was very spammy and vague combat.
