Does anyone know if this means if you buy a pack of 4+ bottles or 6+ metal cans of drink there be a 20p extra charge for each can/bottle in the pack ?

Shoppers 'to be charged 20p on plastic bottles under return scheme' (msn.com)
Shoppers could soon be charged 20 pence extra for drinks in plastic bottles or metal cans under a new deposit return scheme designed to boost recycling and reduce littering.

That going be £4.80 extra for a 24 pack of coke cola :(

And what about all the other stuff you need that comes in plastic bottles..

Like Barrs used to do with their glass bottles of juice huh, Dunns give you 40p back on a bottle costing £1.40
back in the 70's or 80's we used to get money back for returning glass coke bottles if i remember right

Also didn't you uk guys use to get milk in glass bottles back in the 70's & 80's ?

As a scheme it directly collides with doorstep recycling and is going to smash headlong into the online grocery shop revolution. Picture this for a stupid situation currently 99% of my shopping is done online and delivered to my house then when empty I put the plastic and cans out for doorstep recycling collection. Now I’m going to have to separate the stuff with a deposit on it and make a special journey in my car to get my money back. This scheme is 20 years too late!
Can people order off amazon and then claim the bottle/can return money back from there local shop i wonder

It won't, people will pay just like they're happy to pay 90% tax on fossil fuels to power their cars instead of using public transport or their legs

Charging money isn't going to solve the problem of too much plastic unless the charge is prohibitively expensive that people literally can't afford to buy plastic, or we could use alternatives to plastic but that wouldn't generate money from nothing like a glorified tax does
They know it won't stop people but it will cut down the amount many people would have bought..Just like the plastic bag charge people use less bags when they got to pay for them.

Just like the high fuel tax doesn't stop people driving there cars but it does cut down the miles they do..;) specially with online shopping available now,
Many people will now think why waste £5 or £10 or £20 etc of petrol when they can get something delivered for free

It's a shame there aren't clean options of travel available to us! If only a two wheeled device existed where you could sit on it and move your legs in a circular direction to get along faster.
I seen them things before there normally on a holder strapped to the back or roof of a car. Guess it the thought that counts :p

The streets around here most of the litter is empty can and things like empty crisp/sweet packets, probably from people walking around and not caring. I think this is a culture problem, I dont see how this would fix that, I would be very surprised if anyone here would bother walking the streets looking for the odd can here or there.
I really no understand how some people can just walk along and drop there cans, bottles, chip paper/holder, etc, etc and think nothing of it ....

Many times you get a group of people that had a day at the beach and then just get up and walk off leaving all there rubbish behind

I couldn't even do that if I tried..
