Not that its hard to google this type of stuff ( ), but I found this quite good - http://net.tutsplus.com/javascript-ajax/build-an-ajax-powered-shopping-cart/ - uses jquery

Yep google is great for finding info.. looking for a "I used this and it's Great"

Depends what you want from a cart as features vary greatly. Some are stupidly complex whilst others are quite light weight.
