The cheesylad turns 9 next month, we're sorted for a main present, but the grandparents want an idea for up to £40.

After Xmas, and our own purchases, I'm stumped.

Prefer not board games (but interested in ideas for future) as we got 3 or 4 for Xmas and have only played once on most of them. Prefer not lego, as he's got tonnes and is mostly into freestyling it now. He's already got the biggest nerf gun I've ever seen.....

Is there a must have toy I don't know about? Are the £40 drones worth a look? Help me stop having to stare at the Amazon website toys section, GD....

Tldr: £40 toy ideas for boy's 9th birthday.

Woody: "Oh, hi, Bo. Hi."
Bo Peep: "I wanted to thank you, Woody, for saving my flock."
Woody: "Oh, hey, it was, uh, nothin'."
Bo Peep: "What do you say I get someone else to watch the sheep tonight?"
(Woody giggles)
Woody: "Oh, yeah! Uh, I..."
Bo Peep: "Remember, I'm just a couple of blocks away."
Woody and Bo Peep[src]

Bo Peep is a supporting character in Toy Story and Toy Story 2. She is a porcelain figurine based on the nursery rhyme character Little Bo-Peep. She is also Woody's girlfriend. In private, she is a great deal more daring with her words and actions, which Woody seems to be quite fond of. The sassy shepherdess shows a great deal of concern for Woody, as well as all the other toys.

Kit is amazing and can do some really cool stuff with it - if you get it make sure you allocate time spending with him as that many components and wires can be daunting to a young kid. Support is going to be needed at the beginning until he is fully independent.
The worst thing would be for them to start hating it. A good starter guide or book would also be beneficial so he can progress at his own pace and challenge himself.

I'm tempted by the Arduino, looks a good shout, but i wonder that it might be a year or so too soon. That said, we got him a Hot Wires electronics set a year ago, and he's made good use of that... so perhaps....
