Anyone got any suggestions for ISPs that offer short or no contracts for FTTC? I'm on Vodafone at the moment, which was very cheap when I signed up, but because I haven't signed up to a new contract is now up to £38 for 35Mbps. :o

I want to move in the next six months or so, which means I don't want to be tied in to a long contract (happy to pay off 6 months or whatever if needs be or transfer to a new place).

Your other option is to take an 18-month contract but look for providers that specifically say you can move house with them within your commitment term, and that they will release you from your contract if they can't provide services where you move.

NOW Broadband are still offering 1 or 12-month contracts.

Agree with @Personality+

4G/5G sim from Smarty, Unlimited for £18, no contract, cancel anytime: https://smarty.co.uk/#plans

Grab a 4G router from ebay, use this for a while, will be best bang for buck, just hope you get good 3 signal as your location!

Never thought of this! Was without internet for a few days due to original poor external wiring. This is an excellent solution. I guess any sim card will do - subject to data allowance ofcourse (poor 3 reception). Do these routers need external antenas?

most dont but can help in sketchy areas, but yeh any sim that has a decent signal will do.

Depending on where you end up, you may get a " £1 a month for the first x months" deal which might take the sting out of paying for 2 packages.

@Stu999 it's worth noting with Cuckoo, they use CGNAT by default which for most users shouldn't be an issue, but if you host anything at home it can be problematic, so pay the extra (£1? a month) for a static IP address if it's likely to affect you.

Just like to add to this

I am moving from sky to virgin.

Internet went off today.

Need something that can let me use Internet at home for next 2 to 3 weeks till virgin install there cables etc.

I only have my sky q router at the moment (which went of this morning)

Why did you have Sky cease the line before Virgin was installed? Ideally you should have kept it live out of contract, and then put in the notice once VM is installed and tested.

It would take a few days at least before a new ISP will get you up and running (some can be quicker, some slower) and it's going to be a minimum of 30 days. There's likely an Openreach cease fee that would be added once you give notice as well.

https://freeola.com/broadband/ do 30 day contracts, that's one option.

4G/5G is another option.
