Short Notice - Seattle and San Francisco - Choices?

Off to Seattle in the morning for 24 hours before going down to San Francisco for 3 days. Trying to decide if I should just take my little Nikon P7100 coolpix or my Sony A580.

Whilst I appreciate this is a personal opinion of what I want to carry, I wanted to see if people have advice as I am sure others have been to one or other of these cities. I have booked a trip to Alcatraz on Friday and will be doing as much touristy stuff as possible if that helps.

Whoa an A580 owner....I loved mine before I changed to an A77.

For a short trip I'd just take the Nikon, by the sounds of it you arent going to have much time for photography anyway so there's probably not much point in lugging around a DSLR unless you plan on needed it for low light or for dof effects.

Thanks, yeah, I thought as much, and in reality, I can drive back down to Seattle in an evening now or down to SF on a weekend. The 7100 is a nice little camera, so may just take that and some spare cards and the charger for it. But both cameras do all fit in bag and we are driving to Seattle and then I can do hand luggage to SF. For ease though, the 7100 on its' own would make sense as I have no real purpose of the trip so far.

Probably going to look at getting a Mefoto Carbon Fibre tripod while i am in one of the towns as I still have UK funds and the exchange makes it worthwhile!

EDIT: I'm an A580 owner (and I love it) as my very kind uncle sent it to me when I had a Nikon D3100)

If you are only taking the Nikon have a look at a gorillapod instead of a full sized tripod.

Sorry, should have been clearer. I will be looking to get a Mefoto Travel CF Tripod due to pricing, to bring back and add to my gear. I have a gorilla pod which is in my bag already, but thanks as I had not actually thought to take it if I only take the Nikon, for some reason I only ever associate a tripod with the SLR. :confused:
