short sata cables

Mini-ITX SATA data cables available seem to start at 15cm which is fine if thats the distance you need it to span, but I am looking for ( and have found ) cables that are 10cm and 7cm which is just what I need. Seems none in this country, which given the rising popularity of SFF seems like suppliers are slow on the uptake.
Correction, I did find some advertised on specialist HTPC sites but silly prices and hit and miss ( usually miss) availability.
I got mine for under £2 each, only drawback is they are plain straights where I wold have preferred one end right angles and latched. But they will still do the job, and I don`t intend to have a clumsy gerbil roaming the innards of the build so can live without the latching.#Had to go to Hong Kong in the end for them so ordered two sets. Plus lots of other goody bits for ITX

There's a huge difference between a 15cm cable (which is likely the shortest anyone will ever need) and a 10cm or even 7cm cable (2.76in - why would you ever need a cable that short?!).

As you said, you can get 15cm cables in all kinds of configurations (I have a straight to a right-side right-angle) for under £3 from that online auction place.

I do wish OcUK stocked more of these types of cables though, even just normal shorter round cables, it'd save me having to go that auction site, or even worse that other shop that starts with the same letter but ends in "Buyer"...

Why do I need it that short? Well, I decided that I was not going to even attempt to use the wiring harness that came on my Pico 24 pin mounted PSU, all connectors in the wrong place meant mounting drive/s and fan/s in the least optimal places just to suit the harness, and even then with cables stretched diagonally across the motherboard. Seen lots of builds with these constraints and the resulting mess is atrocious in terms of airflow which can be critical in such small confines and in the aesthetic sense.
I mean, who uses a floppy nowadays, but there is sure to be one on any power harness........Plus I do not like or use molex and do not need one.

Hence customising my harness, run to each side along edge of MB, one side 2 x sata and 1 x 3 pin fan, other side 1 x 4 pin ATX and 1 x 3 pin fan. Thats it. no extra connectors, no spare cable coiled up or getting in the way,all the right lengths and going to where I want, sleeved and clipped to the case sides.
This resulted being able to mount the SSD/s under the ODD tray with the SATA3 headers directly underneath with approx 50mm between drive and header..............so even a 6" cable would be way oversized for the job, and having gone this far am less than happy to compromise.
And thats why I need a cable that short...................................

why would you ever need a cable that short?!

Because after inverting the PSU in my Sugo SG05 and mounting a dual 2.5" caddy underneath, my SSDs were directly above the SATA ports on the mobo. 5cm would have been perfect for me, but had to get some kinda expensive refurbished 8cm Dell ones and try to tuck things out of the way.

Also, 7cm would be perfectly length for the 2 drives in my Antec ISK110.

So yeah, depending on how small you're building your system, even the "SSF" 10cm cables can be way to long.

I looked at the Dell ones but pretty sure they were only 3GB anyway.
Not easy to find really short 6GB, would have preferred right angled and latching, but you get what you can..
As for going to "Those other sites" free shipping does have a certain appeal.

A cable is a cable. SATA 6GB certified cables are a marketing ploy to charge more. Just look at a lot of motherboards today and you still get the old-school red SATA cables. Or even if they're black they're nothing special.

Latching and right-angles are good to have, but don't get hung up and pay a premium for something you don't need.

The 2 cables I have were from an old Core 2 Quad Dell system I got on that action site and I have zero transfer rate issues.

Cables arrived and they are latched, which is a bonus, not expecting that.
I understood there was a larger cable count in a SATA 6GB cable............or is that myth?
