Hi Guys.
I'm new the forum I see a lot of quesions about what to build... So hopfully this has a slightly different slant on it...
I'm *rocking* and X2 4200 which i built about 3 years ago. I'm not much of a gamer, but i tend to multi task a LOT! bit of photoshop, some video transcoding, (I'm likly to continue to run some VMs localy.)
I find my self in need of a machine to run as a server. Virtuals wont cut it any more. I was planning on buying an Atom, but i've decided to put this money towards a new main rig and retire mine to running as a server, as im finding it more and more sluggish.
I think i'd be happy with a Q6700 based C2Q system with 8GB of ram. i'll only need PSU + MOBO + RAM + Proc + cooler + case + cheapestGFX for my 3rd monitor(only
) I think i can get that for 400 to 500.
I'll reuse my 9800GT, HDDs, Monitors, etc.
Am i being short sighted not spending the extra now and going to I7?
I'm confident that the power would be enough for the moment, but I guess with this setup i'll have no room to upgrade in a year or so...
If i went down the i7 i guess the mobo / ram is a little more future proof?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tony
