Hey all,

Can you recommend a good, short throw projector? One that can be sat down within a few feet of the projection screen and fill it?

I'm not sure where to start really as there are so many makes and models out there. I'm hoping someone here will be in the know.

How far would you be sitting? and what kind of size would you be looking for?

You might get major headaches if your sat like 3ft from a 80"+ screen

I'd be standing, doing presentations etc. So anywhere from a few inches to a few metres.

Screen size isn't set as such but would need to be pretty flexible in terms of projecting an image that can fill whatever screen it is projecting on - an option is to purchase a screen as well, in fact I'd say that would make a lot of sense.

I use a hitachi data prjector for my home cinema.

It's compact and produces a very large image from only a few feet away.

I'd guess that @ around 3m it would be capable of projecting a 120" image.

Model number escapes me but i'd imagine some of their newer business data projectors will have similar optics for meetings in tighter spaces.

gt

EDIT: In fact here it is with a review stating a 100" image from 2.4m - http://www.homecinemachoice.com/reviews/hccreviews/LCDProjectors/Hitachi/HitachiCP-S225WT.php

Thank you, but 3m is too far. I would like it to be less than a foot away from the screen.

Not sure how helpful people will be here as a projector used for giving presentations will be very different from a home cinema projector.

I know, but fingers crossed. All I'm looking for is an XGA short throw projector.

Depending on budget but this projector is highly rated for being good with short throw uses:

Epson EMP-400W. Minimum distance is 0.54m - that's about as close as you can go without having rubbish quality and it's closer than a lot of the more expensive models. This projector is about £780 ex VAT.

Ah, righto... if you look at your original post you stated a 'few feet' from the screen. :(

That hitachi will manage a 60in image at 1.5m which is about as good as reasonably priced projectors manage. It also comes in an XGA flavour too.

A modern alternative is the Hitachi CP-A100 which will project a 60" image from 42cm away:

However, it is a £1000 piece of kit!

...you don't need short throw projector - you need a long throw room!

If the projector is to be fixed, then a ceiling mount let's you increase the throw without inconveniencing people watching. If you need it to be mobile, you'll have to leave enough of the the central aisle unobstructed.

If you're worried about getting in the way of the image, stay to one side and use a laser pointer if need be.

That's what I'm after. Good find. I'll do a bit of research in to it. It isn't a personal buy so the cost isn't really an issue.
